E Komo Mai, welcome to SSP!

Sand Point Outrigger (SSP) provides children and adults of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities the opportunity to participate in a safe and exciting team oriented sport. SSP provides instruction in techniques of outrigger canoe paddling. Individuals of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities are welcome. No paddling experience is necessary. A wide variety of disciplines, fast learning curve, low impact on the body, team environment and athletic conditioning are all reasons why the sport is so popular. Friendship, sportsmanship, health and fitness are all fostered.

Whether you want to paddle recreation ally or want to participate in a few racing events, we have the program for you. If racing is what you are looking for, we have a full season of sprint and distance events. Outrigger canoe paddling is a great way to experience time on the water.

What we provide

We provide the canoes, paddles and coaches. Since club paddles are limited, we ask that you purchase your own paddle if you continue with us. Also we provide emergency life jackets in the canoe during the spring/summer season. During the winter evening practice session you are required to have and wear your own properly fitting PFD. See Links for our Paddle Manufacturer of choice.

What to wear / What to bring

  • Wear athletic clothes you will be comfortable in if you get a bit wet.
  • You will need shoes that you can walk in the water with to get in and out of the canoe.
  • Water bottle or hydration system
  • A full change of dry clothes
  • Dry bag for the canoe where you can put extra clothing layers

Emergency life jackets are stored in the canoes. Please bring your own life jacket if you would like to wear one while paddling.

Winter paddlers: please bring flashlights/lanterns for evening paddles.

Our Dues

Annual dues are $150 and payable at the start of the season in April. If you join in the winter we will charge you $50 and collect the additional $100 if you decide to continue on with the club. We charge and additional $50 for canoe storage – this is only available to active full paid members.

Insurance:

If you are planning to race, EVERYONE needs race insurance through USACK. This is a PNWORCA requirement. You do not need this insurance if you just plan on paddling with the club and not racing.
